Cardinal has historically and diligently installed the most current control systems to manage sulfur dioxide and particulate emissions. When the Menomonie and Portage float glass plants were built, the Best Available Control Technology (BACT) was utilized. A $5 million investment in scrubbers and precipitators was incurred at each plant. When the Mooresville plant was built, a DeNOx system (required to reduce NOx emissions) was chosen to meet government EPA requirements. This required system, licensed from Pilkington on a worldwide basis, was installed in addition to BACT. Any new plants Cardinal builds have similar emission control systems.
