Cardinal Launches Free Continuing Education Platform With AIA CES Courses for Architects

Cardinal Training gives architects direct access to the specialists who engineer and manufacture Cardinal glass. The on-demand courses explain how glazing technologies work and how to choose glass for energy performance, privacy, and occupant health and safety.

Cardinal Glass Industries has launched Cardinal Training, a free continuing education platform for architects, builders and glazing professionals. Cardinal’s residential and architectural glass specialists develop and teach the courses. Each one explains how a glazing technology performs, so architects can specify windows and doors with the right glass for the project and for the people who will use the building.

“Architects and design professionals should be able to learn directly from the people who engineer, test and manufacture the glass they specify,” said John Glynn, Director of Technology Marketing at Cardinal Glass Industries. “Cardinal Training puts that expertise into on-demand courses. Learners can complete a course on their schedule and leave with the documentation they need.”

Cardinal Training launches with two courses:

  • Smart Privacy Glass Technologies (1 LU|HSW). Andrew DeMiglio, Director of Smart Glass Technologies, compares privacy and solar-control glass technologies, including how each behaves when power is lost, and covers selecting, specifying and coordinating smart glass systems. The course carries HSW credit, which AIA reserves for content that protects the health, safety and welfare of building occupants.
  • Insulating Glass Design: Performance, Sustainability, and Innovation (1 LU). Taught by John Glynn, Director of Technology Marketing, the course covers glass types, spacers, sealants, gas fills and Low-E coatings, along with IG durability, industry standards and climate-appropriate glazing. Architects learn how to match insulating glass units to a building's climate and performance goals.

Both courses are registered with AIA Continuing Education Services (CES). Cardinal Glass Industries is AIA CES Provider #10121105.

Cardinal reports completions to AIA CES for AIA members who add their member number to their Cardinal Training profile. AIA membership is not required. Learners who are not members take the same courses and receive the same certificate, which they can keep for their records or submit to a state licensing board, subject to that board’s requirements.

Learners create a free account, watch a course on demand and pass a short multiple-choice test. The certificate is ready to download as soon as they pass, and they can retake the test as often as they need at no cost. Progress saves automatically, so a learner can stop partway through a course and come back to it later.

Each certificate has a unique certificate number and QR code. Anyone, including a licensing board, can confirm a certificate on the Cardinal Training verification page without signing in. Each learner’s dashboard tracks course progress and keeps every earned certificate available for download.

Cardinal is developing more courses for release through 2027. Upcoming courses include:

  • Low-E Coating Fundamentals: Science, Technology, and Application
  • Laminated Glass Fundamentals: Safety, Storm Protection, Security, and Comfort
  • Sustainable Glass Manufacturing and Responsible Sourcing

Cardinal Training apps for iPhone, iPad and Android are coming soon and will let learners download course videos to watch offline, with progress that syncs to the web.

Cardinal Training is available now at https://cardinaltraining.io. Learner questions can go to support@cardinaltraining.io.
